The Directors of Take The Floor have set their sights on USA for their next Irish dance production! A talent search is being launched to discover the next generation of Irish dance stars.

The search for new talent will be split into 3 phases. Phase I will be an internet audition process whereby dancers will submit audition materials online, consisting of a full dance resumé, head shots and video links to display their dance skills. Phase II will be a weekend spent working with the directors and Phase III will be the all important casting.

Those successful in the online auditions will be invited to take part in Phase II, a weekend event called ‘Ignition USA’. This will take place in Milwaukee, WI in late August. The masterclass audition weekend will take dancers through a vigorous performance training program. Designed by Goulding and McAvinchey the program will not just give performers the opportunity to audition for the new US based dance company but also help them to develop and advance their own performance skills.

Paula Goulding & Shane McAvinchey, co-founders and directors of Up Ya Get Ltd bring together both extensive and impressive backgrounds in dance performance and production having spent up to 7 years touring the world with the original Irish dance spectacular ‘Riverdance.’ Since then they have performed with many artists worldwide and produced and directed their own events and shows across Europe. Their growing portfolio includes Take The Floor (one of the biggest Irish dance shows of the last decade), their latest show Journey To Ireland which premiered in Germany earlier this year and The Irish Dance Festival, a week long festival celebrating Irish dance and music that will take place for the second time this summer in Co. Louth, Ireland. Over the course of their careers they have been working passionately to bring this traditional form of dance to new audiences, both within Ireland and across the world.

Those successful in the online auditions are being invited to take part in phase II, a weekend event called ‘Ignition USA’. This will take place in Milwaukee, WI from August 21st – 23rd. The audition weekend will take dancers through a vigorous performance training program which has been designed by Goulding and McAvinchey. The program will give performers the opportunity to audition for the new US based dance company while helping them to develop and advance their own performance skills. The ultimate goal with ‘Ignition’ is to source the first company members who will ultimately be involved in touring productions in USA in 2016.

The final phase of the talent search will take place towards the end of the year when a selection of dancers from Ignition will be cast as the first company members of The American Company of Irish Dance. They will then begin to rehearse a brand new show set to premier in the US next year.

Irish dancers over the age of 18 and of Open level standard are invited to submit their auditions online by visiting www.takethefloorshow.com, auditions will be accepted until midnight July 10th.

IGNITIONAD

The Directors of Irish Dance based production company Up Ya Get Ltd have set their sights on USA for their next production and have launched a talent search with a view to discovering the next generation of Irish dance stars.
Louth, Ireland.

“Paula and I both started out in competitive Irish dance but always had a passion for performance. Turning professional at the early age of 16 after being selected to join ‘Riverdance’, we have been heavily involved in all aspects of dance production and performance since then and our goal is to pass on our experience and skills to the next generation of performers. It has been over 20 years since professional Irish dance shows first gained worldwide attention and we both feel like we owe it to the up-and-coming dance generation to give them the opportunity to experience what we have in our professional careers and more importantly pass on the tools now required to be a professional Irish dancer. The appetite for Irish music and dance is still as strong as ever all around the world and we want to bring it to the next level.”- says Shane.

Ireland is known for its rich and dynamic culture and both Goulding and McAvinchey believe that there is still so much to draw from. The dance masters, the music and poets that Ireland has produced down through the years is what inspires them and they both admit that their Irish pride keeps pushing them to endeavour to spread their culture. The entrepreneurial pair have travelled the world over and both are still amazed and joyed to find a piece of Ireland in every place they go.

The search for new talent will be split into three phases, according to Paula. The first phase will be an internet audition process whereby dancers will submit audition materials online, consisting of a full dance resumé, head shots and video links to display their dance skills. The second phase will be a weekend spent working with the directors and the third will be the all important casting.

“We were the first ever Irish dance production to audition dancers online for Take The Floor in 2012 and we found it to be an invaluable process for narrowing down the search and screening potential cast members. We know it is difficult to really get a sense of a performer through an online audition but for the initial casting phase it gives everyone a fair chance to get involved and make a good first impression while also providing us with the opportunity to screen dancers for live auditions.” – says Paula.

“Working with the dancers over the course of a few days will really give us a sense of their potential as company members,” – continues Paula. “We will not just be evaluating and honing their dance technique, ability and stage presence but also how they take on new choreography, interact with fellow participants and deal with direction. If they show weaknesses in any of these areas we will give them support and advise them on how they can improve for the future. The goal with ‘Ignition’ is to source our first company members who will ultimately be involved in touring productions in USA in 2016.”

The final phase of the talent search will take place towards the end of the year when a selection of dancers from Ignition will be cast as the first company members. They will then begin to rehearse a brand new show set to premier in the US next year.

“At this point we are not allowed to reveal too much information but what we can say is that we have an incredible team involved and we are working together to build a company that will not just create and stage amazing productions but also become a hub of Irish performing arts. We aim to nurture and develop new talent and provide a foundation which will inspire the future of Irish Dance and performance. We are hugely excited to see what new talent is out there and begin working with them to create this new company. We are going to open the doors of opportunity for young performers to prove themselves as the next generation of Irish dance stars. Something like this has never been done before and we are thrilled to be starting this journey to what we hope will become the next biggest thing in Irish entertainment.” said Shane.

Irish dancers over the age of 18 and of Open level standard are invited to submit their auditions online, auditions will be accepted until midnight July 10th.

Especially the Millennium Forum because I practically grew up in it. My home is 5 miles from the venue and from the age for 4 I was singing, dancing, reciting poems, you name it. I even had my graduation ceremony there. It has always been a dream of mine to be part of an Irish dancing show because it is combines everything that I love, which is singing, dancing and music. I also feel like I could really do the show justice because I have experience performing in front of live audiences and live TV. Honestly, I am be so proud to perform with Take The Floor.”
